We're almost done our early-game look at Saga of Ryzom. Today we leave the starting island and visit the Matis city of.. Yrkanis. Yes, Yrkanis. No, I'm not 100% sure how to pronounce it either.

Note, when I started the game it was the middle of the night on Atys, so I had to bump up the brightness on the screenshots. Anyway, the first thing you need to do is locate the Karavan teleporter.

Normally I would stay on the main island for longer (and probably will with my next character) but right now I want to show off Yrkanis, so off we go!

I've noticed that there are a few different loading screens. This is, apparently, the teleporter one. Not bad, not bad.

And, we're here! The city looks good by night, with glowing lights and incandesant panels all over. There's also plenty of new stuff to strive for! For instance, I found a place to get a player apartment...

But it's a wee out of my price range.

The archetecture of some of the buildings here are quite unique. From the above open building, to this fountain flower...

To these strange leafy pods. I guess that's what happens when you're the nature/planty civilization.

As you can see, the city still looks good by day. Anyway, back to the game itself!

Obviously, foraging nets different stuff here. And also, there are a few new mission NPC types, like the Messenger

Sure, it's a lot like the suppliers, but more quests are still good. I don't know any of these places, so I won't try any of these, but here they are anyway. Time do some more exploring...

What's that?

Oh, it's a Kami teleport point! The Kami are the other mysterious race of Atys. Mysterious and strange-looking, they apparently gave the power of magic to the Homins.

One thing I noticed was that one of the new skills I can learn at my current level of fight wasn't an Ability but an individual Stanza. I didn't learn it (I'm not a big fan of HP loss abilities) but this can act as a new credit to allow you to make more powerful abilities.

I decided to give up using my gun because I really can't afford the ammo all the time. I bought a new dagger and got a buckler (which looks like a scarab for some reason) and have moved up from Weanling to Timorous - I can even beat Timorous Bodocs but it takes a lot more out of me.

I explored some more, and saw some wierd neutral NPCs - they look like computer-controlled Homins and are in huge groups of one kind. You can attack them but they don't attack you on sight, or anything. I also found some of the other outposts, Davae and Avalae.

Well, I think I'm at a point that I can't do much new without playing for a long time and exploring the systems in front of me. Tommorow I'll give you a good idea of what I actually think about the game but until then I think I'll just sit by the fire...
